How To Control Facebook Post Tagging

We have all seen those fake Ray-Ban or Oakley sunglasses posts with loads of people unwittingly tagged in them, and that’s just one example. I have a few high profile friends who fall victim to these posts mainly due to the fact they have a high number of friends, so good pickings for the tag spammers!

There could be other reasons you may want to control what your being tagged in so here’s a quick guide.

The option we need here is called ‘Timeline Review’ and once set to enabled posts that your tagged in do not appear on your Timeline or in your friends news feeds until you have reviewed and agreed for it to appear.

Follow these steps to enable Timeline Review

  1. Login to Facebook
  2. Go to Settings ( )
  3. Click on “Timeline and Tagging”
  4. Under “Who can add things to my timeline?” > Review posts that friends tag you in before they appear on your Timeline? > Click “Edit” and change to “Enabled”

Now you can approve posts you’re tagged in before they appear on your timeline or your friends news feeds.

Follow these steps to remove yourself from posts you have been tagged in

  1. Login to Facebook
  2. Go to Activity Log > Posts You’re Tagged
  3. Click the globe icon next to the picture in the list, and then select “Report/Remove Tag.”
  4. Click appropriate check box

Now you will receive notifications whenever someone tags you in a post and choose if you want it to appear on your timeline.
